The Art of Being Curious — A Studio Damini Journal
Have you ever looked at something ordinary—a leaf, a shadow, a little splash of color—and suddenly found yourself lost in thought?
That happens to me all the time.
Art is in my veins. It’s part of how I see the world, even when I’m not holding a brush.
My sketchbook is my companion. Sometimes I fill it with colors, sometimes with shapes, and sometimes with feelings I can’t quite explain.
Do you have something in your life that helps you express what words cannot?

One leaf, another thought
Look at these leaves. None of them is quite the same. Some are bright, others soft. Some overlap, while others grow in unexpected directions.
That’s how I imagine our thoughts and experiences. One observation leads to another. A memory connects with an emotion. A new experience changes the direction of a branch. Slowly, something grows.
My imagination is the roots. My dreams are the water. Time is the soil.
And each little experience becomes another leaf.
Not every season is full of leaves
Sometimes we feel creative and full of ideas. Other times, we feel stuck. Nothing seems to grow.
But I wonder whether those quieter seasons are just as important. Maybe we’re collecting experiences, noticing things, or discovering something about ourselves without realizing it.
My creativity doesn’t always follow a schedule. Perhaps yours doesn’t either.
Now I’m curious about your story
You don’t have to be an artist to have a sketchbook of your own. Maybe yours is a garden, a kitchen, a journal, music, photography, or simply a quiet walk—something that gives your thoughts a place to go.
What is your sketchbook in life—the place where your feelings, thoughts, or imagination find a home?
I’d love to hear your answer in the comments. Even a few words are welcome. Maybe we’ll discover that although our lives look different, the ways we grow aren’t so different after all.
Still observing. Still imagining. Still growing.
With curiosity and color,
Damini
